The central event of Transport Week 2022 in the field of industry education was the establishment of the International Association of Maritime and Inland Navigation Universities, the creation of which was announced in September. The signing of the charter of the International Association of Maritime and Inland Navigation Universities (IAMINU) took place at the joint stand of the projects of the Ministry of Transport of Russia. The founders of the association, the initiative for the creation of which was born at the Volga University of Water Transport, were universities subordinate to Rosmorrechflot, the Russian University of Transport (Moscow) and the Academy of Maritime Education and Training (Chennai, India).
The rector of RUT (MIIT) Aleksandr Klimov, the rector of VSUVT Igor Kuzmichev, the rector of the Ushakov State Medical University Sergey Kondratyev, the rector of the Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping Sergey Baryshnikov, the rector of the Nevelskoy Moscow State University Denis Burov and the rector of the Saratov State University of Water Transport Tatyana Zaiko signed the main founding document of the new international educational organization. The establishment of the Association was supported by the Russian Ministry of Transport and the Federal Agency for Maritime and River Transport. Deputy Head of Rosmorrechflot Konstantin Anisimov was present at the signing ceremony as an honorary guest.
The creation of a new international industry organization was required due to the fact that the membership of Russian transport universities in existing associations was suspended for an indefinite period. At the same time, the demand of partners from friendly countries for the development of mutually beneficial cooperation with Russian universities in the field of education, science and transport, including water transport, is growing.
IAMINU includes representatives of 7 leading industry universities in Russia and 12 foreign educational institutions, including the Vietnam Maritime University, Dalian Maritime University, Istanbul Technical University and others.
— The International Association of Universities of Maritime and River Transport will serve as a platform for communication and exchange of best practices, as well as contribute to strengthening the reputation and increasing the ratings of Russian universities in the international transport education market, — noted the rector of VSUFT Igor Kuzmichev at the signing ceremony.
According to preliminary data, the first general assembly of IAMINU will be held in February-March 2023 in Moscow at the Russian University of Transport.
