An International Association of Universities has been established in Russia

The central event of the Transport Week-2022 in the field of industry education was the establishment of the International Association of Maritime and River Transport Universities, the creation of which was announced in September. The charter of the International Association of Maritime and Inland Navigation Universities (IAMINU) was signed at the joint project stand of the Ministry of Transport of Russia. The founders of the association, the initiative of which was born in the Volga University of Water Transport, were universities subordinate to Rosmorrechflot, the Russian University of Transport (Moscow) and the Academy of Maritime Education and Training (Chennai, India).

The main constituent document of the new international educational organization was signed by the rector of the RUT (MIIT) Alexander Klimov, Rector of the VSUVT Igor Kuzmichev, rector of the GMU named after Adm. F. F. Ushakov Sergey Kondratiev, Rector of the GUMRF named after Adm. S. O. Makarov Sergey Baryshnikov, Rector of the Moscow State University named after G. I. Nevelsky Denis Burov and Rector of SSUVT Tatiana Zaiko. This is reported on the Rosmorrechflot website.

 

The creation of the Association was supported by the Ministry of Transport of Russia and the Federal Agency for Sea and River Transport. Konstantin Anisimov, Deputy Head of Rosmorrechflot, was present at the signing ceremony as an honorary guest.

The creation of a new international industry organization was required due to the fact that the membership of Russian transport universities in existing associations was suspended indefinitely. At the same time, there is a growing demand from partners from friendly countries for the development of mutually beneficial cooperation with Russian universities in the field of education, science and transport, including water.

 

IAMINU consists of representatives of 7 leading industry universities in Russia and 12 foreign educational institutions, including Vietnam Maritime University, Dalian Maritime University, Istanbul Technical University and others.

- The International Association of Maritime and River Transport Universities will serve as a platform for communication and exchange of best practices, as well as contribute to strengthening the reputation and improving the ratings of Russian universities in the international transport education market, - said Igor Kuzmichev, Rector of VSUVT, at the signing ceremony.

According to preliminary data, the first general Assembly of IAMINU will be held in February-March 2023 in Moscow on the basis of the Russian University of Transport.
