Responsible for conducting the analysis of atmospheric quality in workplaces (AGT)

Course Description:

Personnel performing atmospheric analysis in production areas, including confined spaces

Goals

Provide trainees with the necessary information to effectively and competently analyze the atmosphere for the presence of toxic/flammable gases and safe oxygen levels to ensure the safety of the work area, including confined spaces.

Training program:

Content

  • Selection, use and care of PPE (personal protective equipment) for use in atmospheres with low or high oxygen levels, toxic and flammable gases.
  • Advantages and disadvantages of different types of gas analysis equipment.
  • Application of organizational and legislative requirements.
  • Application of EH40 standards for flammable gases.
  • Hazards associated with working in toxic, flammable and incompatible atmospheres.
  • Carrying out work according to the requirements of the PtW work permit system
  • Understanding work requirements – safety principles, procedures, regulations, practices and standards
  • Frequency of measurements and their permissible limits.
  • Principles of atmospheric analysis as applied to the confined space entry procedure.
  • Types of production requiring testing for oxygen deficiency, toxic and flammable gases.
  • Evaluation and interpretation of measurement results.
  • Risk factors and properties of toxic and flammable gases, including oxygen deficiency and over-enrichment, nitrogen and site-specific materials.
  • A type of control and measuring instrument used in various working conditions.
  • Preparing detectors for operation and checking their functionality.
  • Correct choice between aspirating and non-aspirating detectors to obtain the correct sample of the test area.
  • Operating principles of air quality monitoring and measurement instruments, including their advantages and disadvantages, as well as common failure modes.
  • Potential chronic health effects from working in oxygen-deficient conditions, in atmospheres containing toxic and flammable gases.
  • Interpretation of test results, including acceptable or unacceptable limits (detector readings).
  • Acceptable levels of toxic and flammable gases and sufficient oxygen content.
  • Characteristics of various gases.
  • Correct location of gas analyzers for current monitoring of atmospheric quality.
  • Rules for obtaining correct samples of the test atmosphere from different areas of a confined space.
