Offshore Oil and Gas Emergency Response Team Leader (FOERTL) Refresher Training

Course Description:

A refresher course is required for personnel with a valid OERTL or Further OERTL certificate to extend the validity of their current certification following completion of a series of rescue exercises based on realistic offshore emergency scenarios.

Goals

Students are given the opportunity to participate in practical exercises that develop and reinforce the necessary skills to work in an emergency rescue (search) team as Team Leaders (OERTL). These practical actions cannot be effectively practiced at offshore facilities, as they involve actual firefighting.

Training program:

Content

  • Conducting further practical exercises on emergency response
  • Conducting practical fire and non-fire exercises (as OERTL)
  • Participation in practical exercises, with and without fire (as OERTM)

Physical activities associated with this course may include, but are not limited to:

  • Manual movement of loads;
  • Being under controlled exposure to heat and smoke;
  • Breathing from a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA full face mask type);
  • Bending and twisting the upper body;
  • Continuous presence in the classroom for at least 50 minutes
